Joe Powers, of Powers Ventures and Canadian Honker, hands Lynn Diercks, of Red Wing, whose son, Michael Diercks, will be deploying with the Minnesota National Guard, a grill pack while helping out volunteers from Serving Our Troops Thursday, June 18, 2020, in the Canadian Honker parking lot in Rochester. Serving Our Troops distributed grill packs containing four steaks and accompaniments to family members of area Minnesota National Guard soldiers from the Mankato-based 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry who will be deploying to the Horn of Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The grill packs are meant to allow for a socially distant, virtual send-off where family members participate from home rather than a more traditional event because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
