Bullying Author

Jay Asher, author of the book, "Thirteen Reasons Why," signs a copy of his book for Elise Holcomb, 15, center, a sophomore at Roosevelt High School, as Alix Brumitt, also 15 and a sophomore, stands by after speaking at Roosevelt High School as part of his "50 States Against Bullying" tour on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Sioux Falls was Asher's 36th stop on his tour, he said. ÒThirteen Reasons Why,Ó a No. 1 New York Times best seller, is a fictional account of a boy who finds a box of cassette tapes from a classmate who committed suicide. One of Asher's goals is to reach out to people and discuss suicide and bullying even though it may be uncomfortable, he said. "You're not going to reach out for help if you don't think people are going to understand," Asher said. "The more we can do to talk about these things in an honest way, I think that only helps," Asher explained.
